New England Patriots now 0-3 in the preseason entering tonight's game.  They lost 16-15 in the opener against Baltimore, then came back to lose 27-10 to Tampa Bay and last week lost to Philadelphia 27-17.  Tom Brady has yet to play a series in the preseason.  Reports on Monday said that Brady says he'll be ready for the New England Patriots opener even if a foot injury keeps him from taking a single snap in exhibition games.  Brady is fine, always has been.  This bogus foot thing, just like last years bogus leg injury, is just the team screwing with the leagues head (see last preseason with Randy Moss).  Moss didn't play all pre-season with some sort of injury, he comes out in the regular season burning teams.  "I'm hoping I'm always out there," Brady said Monday on his regular weekly appearance on WEEI radio, "and if I don't play, I'll be ready for Kansas City."  Wide receiver Wes Welker missed Monday's practice after injuring his ribs early in Friday night's 27-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.  His 112 catches last season tied T.J. Houshmandzadeh of Cincinnati for the NFL lead. NY Giants key addition is Sammy Knight, he is a free safety replacing Gibril Wilson who went to the Oakland Raiders.  Knight signed a $5 million deal for three years.  The Giants can use a smart, veteran player in the secondary.  Three years might be a little long for Knight, who is 32 years old, but he is going to bring leadership to the team, and that is what they need with a young secondary.  The front four on defense showed how to beat the Patriots last year in the Superbowl, but they have lost Michael Strahan to retirement.  The player to watch out for this season is Justin Truck who could have been the MVP of the Superbowl last year.  Osi Umenyiora is another defensive lineman who can change a game around in a hurry.

It is amazing the Bills had a chance at making the playoffs last year but they ended up with three straight losses to end the season.  The Bills had the 30th ranked offense and the 31st ranked defense in the league last year.  There special teams play is what kept them in games.  The Bills special teams unit is great at blocking points and returning kickoffs.  If they can approve on both sides of the ball this year they have a great chance of sneaking into the NFL playoffs as a wild card.

After the defense ranking at the bottom the past three years, the Bills took action in the off-season.  With the 11th overall pick in the draft they took Leodis McKelvin, a corner back out of Troy.  He was the top corner in the draft and will push for the starting job.  Buffalo allowed the most passing yards in team history last year, 238.4 per game.  If the Bills get tougher in the middle of the defensive line this year, then the ends should be more effective rushing the passer.

The Philadelphia Eagles will try to get back to the top of the NFC East, which produced three playoff teams including the Superbowl Champion NY Giants.  Running back Brain Westbrook is one of the leagues most versatile running backs.  He racked up the league-best 2,104 yards from scrimmage last season, averaging 4.8 yards per carry and catching 90 passes.  Westbrook was one of the best moves Coach Reid's made.  He can bull through the middle for tough yards or step out and become a graceful and speedy wide receiver.  They need him healthy all season to win the division.

Donovan McNabb appears to be back after recovering from an injury in the 2006 season.  He struggled early last season after returning from this injury.  He probably came back to soon last year as he looked uncomfortable in the pocket in the early part of the season.  But he looked good at the end of the season as he lead the Eagles to three straight victories to close out the season.  McNabb has been on the hot seat every year, but this season more than ever.  McNabb missed two games last year with a sprained ankle, but he returned the final month of the season back on track.  He must stay healthy all season, and he must deliver or the Eagles...
